  CHILD SAFETY COMMITMENT

  1. At Wonnies School of Music, we want all students to be happy, safe and empowered.  We have zero tolerance for child abuse and are committed to providing a child-safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.  Particular attention is paid to the cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds, vulnerable children, as well as to the safety of children with a disability.

  2.

  3. Every staff member and volunteer involved with Wonnies has a responsibility to understand the important and specific role they play individually and collectively, to ensure that they prioritise the wellbeing and safety of all children and young people in all they do and in every decision they make.  We have a detailed Child Safety Code of Conduct, a Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy and a Child Safety and Wellbeing Procedure which  inform and govern how we do this.

  1.  ALLEGATIONS, CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS

  2.

All allegations and safety concerns are treated with the utmost priority and care, consistent with our robust         policy and procedures which comply with legislative requirements.

We strive to ensure that all children, families, staff and volunteers know what to do and who to tell if they observe abuse          or are a victim, and / or if they notice inappropriate behaviour. We all have a responsibility to protect children when a risk        is identified, and to report an allegation of abuse if they have a reasonable belief that an incident took place.

Factors contributing to reasonable belief include:

A child states they or someone they know has been abused (noting that sometimes the child may be referring to                       themselves).

Behaviour consistent with that of an abuse victim is observed.

Someone else has raised a suspicion of abuse but is unwilling to report it.

     Observing suspicious behaviour.
